Description
Canon Inkjet Printer MP480 is the perfect blend of performance and convenience. This versatile All-In-One lets you print beautiful, long-lasting 4 x 6 inch borderless prints in about 45 seconds. A new 4-color ink system ensures vivid colors and bold, black text. Your copies will be truer to the originals, and scans of photos or forms will yield results of up to 2400 x 4800 color dpi resolution.
Want to print photos without a computer? Easy. Just insert a memory card into a built-in card slot, preview and enhance images on the 1.8 inch TFT display, then print! You can also print directly from a compatible digital camera or camera phone even a Bluetooth device via the optional BU-30 Bluetooth interface. You can keep the paper output tray closed when not printing; it opens automatically when printing begins.
ChromaLife 100+
The combination of new inks and media deliver exceptional beauty and longevity.
High Performance Ink Cartridges
The two genuine Canon ink cartridges (one B&W, one multi-color) contain specially formulated inks for the highest possible quality. They’re easy to use and to replace as needed.
Preview Then Print
Before printing, preview and fine tune your images using the color LCD display.
Smart Scanning
The new Auto Scan feature detects the type of original you’re scanning - a photo, business card, personal notebook or form - then automatically scans and saves the image with the appropriate settings.
Quick Start
Powering up your printer is now faster than ever. After pressing the power button, you can begin inputting commands in approximately 2 seconds. Full operation is even enabled in a shorter time now too.
Print from Memory Cards / Cameras
Want to print photos directly from a compatible memory card without using your computer? Just insert the card into a built-in slot, select images on the LCD display, and print! You can also print photos directly from your digital camera/DV camcorder.
Review
I have been a HUGE fan of Canon Inkjet printer for many years. I LOVE the fact that it will print, copy AND scan all in one very compact machine! Goodbye stand-alone HP scanner, I never cared much for you anyway. And the fact that you can print photos from your camera and make copies without the computer even being turned on, is just awesome. Not only does it support pictbridge (plugging your camera into the printer) but it also has slots for your memory cards and a pop-up screen with a very functional menu to take care of almost any printing need, sans computer!
It was a snap to set up, installed without a single glitch and, unlike the other reviewer who had difficulty with what they perceived as an antiquated, unhelpful print-head alignment program, I also found that process to be simple, fast and easy. PLEASE NOTE: If this is your first USB printer, you will need to purchase a USB cable because it doesn’t come with one.
So, why not 5 stars? I do have two complaints:
1. There is only one possible reason why Canon has decided to stray from that smart technology - MONEY. Less ink in a more expensive cartridge means more money in Canon’s pockets. Still, these cartridges are cheaper than comparable ones for Epson or Lexmark printers and I have NOT found that the ink ‘disappears’ any faster than other brands with a similar quantity of ink (buy the ‘XL’ replacement cartridges for a better value)
2. I loved the auto-shut off feature of my ip2000. I never had to turn it off or power it back up. When I needed to print, I simply hit the ‘print’ key and it did it’s thing. The MP480 either needs to stay on all the time (the menu screen does turn itself off after 5 minutes of non-use) or you have to turn it on and let it go through it’s lengthy routine every time you want to use it.
That said, the ‘quiet’ mode is quiet, the print quality is superb and the footprint on my desk isn’t much more than my ip2000 and the multifunction MP480 allowed me to get rid of my bulky scanner, so even with it’s two drawbacks, this one is a definite keeper!
